Ciskei workers have won basic trade union rights in law. But they often have to engage in tough battles to establish them in practice, as employers who enjoyed unfettered authority under Sebe do not change their attitude overnight. The strike and lock-out at Triad Electronics in Fort Jackson shows this clearly. Karl von Holdt reports.
