Post office strike & future bargaining

Wages and working conditions have been at the centre of disputes in the strikes of 2012 and the industrial unrest that spilled into 2013. Although wage disputes have been at the centre of strikes, the post office strike is unique in the sense that workers went on strike to demand R37-billion that they were owed by the employer – an amount which is in dispute. The employer then dismissed over 620 workers, and the Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) is fighting for the workers to be reinstated.
