SAFTU condemns burning of trucks in Kwazulu Natal

Media release
10 July 2021

SAFTU is appalled by the senseless burning of trucks in KwaZulu Natal in response to the imprisonment of former president, Jacob Zuma.

Former president Zuma’s posture not to utilise the opportunities presented to him to challenge the court process at the onset – either because of a contemptuous attitude to the courts predicated on delusions of grandeur or bad legal advice – and his ultimate contempt of court order, have landed him in a jail term of 15 months.

His supporters, therefore, are trying to defend the indefensible. Their senseless acts of violence and arson are consequently unjustifiable.

The tenderpreneurs who might possibly be behind these acts of arson, will be nowhere when drivers whose buses are burned lose their jobs.

SAFTU condemns those acts of arson on the trucks and any other vehicle in KwaZulu Natal.

Statements issues on behalf of SAFTU by General Secretary, Zwelinzima Vavi.
