SACTWU general secretary John Copelyn argues that a new perspective of trade union independent is emerging in COSATU. Unions should establish their independent base in institutions of collective bargaining. They can then use this base to contribute to transforming society. Trade unions should avoid relying on political organisations or the state to do this.
